CURRENT VACANCIES
Position: Operations support
Location: Knowsley, Merseyside
Pay: £28,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5
Contract type: Fixed term appointment for 6 months with the possibility of extension.
Working Days: Monday to Friday: 08:30am – 16:30pm with a 30-minute break each day
The Company
Founded in 1998, Tulway Group has established itself as a leading multidisciplined supplier of high specification mechanical, pipework and steelwork services, providing full site installation services to UK industry. The Group includes Tulway Engineering, Tulway Fabrications and Tulway Energy. We operate out of two locations in the UK – our Head Office in Knowsley, Merseyside, with a further 30,000 sq ft & 70,000 sq ft fabrication facilities in Middlesbrough.
Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a recent graduate to help support our operations team at Knowsley, and to facilitate the smooth running of the Knowsley site. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop work experience in this industry.
We are looking for a highly motivated, organised and detail-oriented individual to join our supportive, family run organisation.
Key responsibilities
The main areas of responsibility are:
- Providing support to our operations team
- Liaising with suppliers via email and telephone.
- Collating information for supplier appraisal questionnaires.
- Assisting with the production of quotations using Microsoft 365.
- Processing daywork sheets in preparation for invoicing.
- Keeping the company quotation register and job register up to date.
- Producing order acknowledgement letters.
- Creating and maintaining project files, liaising with Project Control Officer to ensure files are maintained to relevant standard and held securely.
- Assisting with administration relating to International Standards Organisation (ISO) standards and keeping the maintenance register up to date.
- Maintain logs and checklists for company vehicles to help ensure service and maintenance checks are carried out in a timely manner.
- Providing ad hoc support to the Operations Director – UK.
- Finance and accounts
- Raising draft invoices within Xero system.
- Completion of supplier credit account forms.
- Providing ad hoc support to the Finance Manager / Accounts Manager.
- Marketing and communication
- Maintain our Company website and social media presence helping to increase our brand awareness, generate leads and sales, and improve client engagement.
- Develop relationships with relevant social media partners.
- General administration
- Act as first point of contact for visitors and telephone enquiries – handling incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
- HR administration; supporting the HR Manager in recruitment, updating staff files and training records.
- Obtaining quotes for training courses and arranging bookings.
- Manage the inventory and storage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), placing orders with suppliers to maintain stock levels.
- Manage the inventory and storage of stationery, placing orders with suppliers to maintain stock levels.
- Providing secretarial services for Directors.
- Arranging travel and accommodation for staff when required.
- Manage the filing, storage and security of documents.
- To accept responsibility for tasks that are not necessarily listed above but are commensurate with a role of this type.

Location: Middlesbrough with some travel to local sites

Duties and responsibilities
- Preparation of analytical estimates for mechanical engineering works, that are technically accurate and with an acceptable risk level, from outline drawings and specifications.
- Be involved in the planning, development, negotiation, and contract execution of a project.
- Technical and commercial appraisal of construction labour, plant, materials, and temporary work.
- Ensure procedures, including quality management processes, are followed, documented and correct authorisations are in place.
- Check quotes from suppliers and subcontractors are comprehensive and include all necessary elements.
- Identify value engineering solutions to ensure bids remain competitive and profitable.
- Attend sites to estimate as required and produce analysis of the results.
- Client liaison and site meetings as requested.
- Build and maintain long term relationships with key clients.
- Work closely with the Directors on all projects you are assigned to.
Skills and Attributes
- Commercially astute and able to identify and manage risk.
- Ability to anticipate issues that may affect costs and address them proactively.
- An eye for detail and proven ability to work to tight deadlines.
- IT literate and competent in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
- A flexible approach to work and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Self-motivated, innovative and solution driven.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a mechanical estimator.
- A relevant qualification in a mechanical discipline would be advantageous.
- Demonstrable experience producing estimates up to the value of £20 million.
- Must have a sound understanding of mechanical services, drawings, specifications and labour requirements.
- Working knowledge of industry practices, regulations, materials specifications, supply chain and discipline specific terminology.
